Introduction

The Purpose: The purpose of this blog is primarily to enable me to work through the books I am reading and analyzing in a formal manner. If I can articulate what I have learned and perceived in a blog post well, then it is more certain that I have actually learned from the book.

One of my primary tasks now, apart from my calling as a homemaker, is to develop the system we will use in home schooling our children. Specifically as that relates to this blog, I want to analyze children’s (and adult’s) literature, deciphering the worldview represented in the book and deciding which age and stage the book is best suited for, if any. The primary use of this blog will be to direct my children to literature appropriate for their level of development, encouraging them to develop a biblical worldview as they read. As such, my intended audience will be parents and educators, primarily myself as future parent and educator.

The Structure: After this introductory post, my first order of business will be to introduce the various levels of education I will be using to sort the books. The posts describing the educational levels will change over time, as I gain more knowledge about each level. These posts are perhaps written the most tentatively and are most reluctantly the first, for I am fully aware how ill prepared I am in the realm of child psychology.

Possibly all subsequent posts will be reviews of books. The reviews will focus on the content and worldview of the book, using specific examples wherever needed. Each book will also be sorted into one of the educational levels with full explanations for my allocations. To any readers, I apologize in advance for any spoilers. I will try not to unnecessarily reveal endings of books (especially good ones), but the purpose is not so much to intrigue readers about the books as it is to work through the worldview in a helpful way.

To Any Readers: This blog is primarily for my own education and memory, yet I heartily welcome readers. Comments will be extremely helpful in the analysis and articulation process. Please ask questions that clarify my thinking and my writing. Please offer suggestions of books to read and further develop my thought processes, pulling out further observations from the literature. Please correct me where I have inappropriately argued, interpreted, and sorted. I will attempt to respond to all comments humbly and thoughtfully.
